Poem and movement piece; work made as a response to a series of Action Theatre ensemble workshops and one on one tuition sessions with Action Theatre practitioner Danielle Cresp in 2019.

What if you already have
all that you need?
If you knew how to do
all the things
It’s easy to forget
unless,
we make time
to remember
To extend,
unafraid
To touch it
Let it seep in, pour out
through your mouth,
through your hands
through your you

Birth
Breathe
Bury
Soak the reeds
gift the bramble bowl
abundant
with berry stained fingers
might you come to rest here
this felted mat
of malted hair awaits
shed
to remind
loss
is renewal
is
Stillness is the movement
I remember that now
Before I was learned and worded
I was a seed
Voiceless
limbless
waking
embodied in the knowledge of the universe
Before I was known and named
sown into
this mortal fabric
of meaning making
made to wear my mother’s face as a mask
asking permission to be born,
again
eyes widen as I walk the dark path
barefoot
following the scent of those who came before
I am led
tread softly
I am wet by the ways
of the world
bastardised by their words
and so I grew this way
rather than that way
the wandering tendrils of monstera as it seeks a new earth
This body shifts, forgets and reminds itself
And I lie beside myself
holding her
here now.
